The present machine is a moving-portal milling machine with 5 simultaneous axes, complete with Allen-Bradley 9/620 Numeric Control.

The work surface, obtained on the machine bed, is made of cast iron.

The special casting process used ensures total absence of residual stresses in the castings.

The machine bed has a modular structure and is made up of four interconnected modules equipped with levelers.

Along the side, the machine bed is provided with interchangeable longitudinal guides to enable sliding of the two uprights.

An amply-sized cross member rests on the two uprights; it is built in electric arc-welded steel.

The set of the two uprights and cross member forms the moving portal, which slides longitudinally (X-Axis).

A traverse carriage slides on the cross member (Y-Axis); the milling head cross-piece is mounted on this carriage and slides vertically (Z-Axis).

The linear slidings of the machine are obtained by means of recirculation roller runners.

The slide guides are built of high-speed, core-hardened and ground steel.

The displacement of the portal takes place by means of two moving assemblies, each controlled by a DC motor.

The two motors are electronically synchronized.

The screw governing the Z-Axis is equipped with a pneumatic-release spring brake to prevent the milling head cross-piece dipping when the axis drive is deactivated.

The slide guides are lubricated with grease by means of a centralized lubrication system.

The GAMFIOR electro spindle has a power of 14 kW and a maximum speed of 10,000 rpm.

The spindle is equipped with a device for gripping and hydraulically releasing the milling tool.

The spindle taper is ISO 40.

The spindle is also arranged for mounting 5 vibration sensors to detect the temperature on the bearings.

An electric cabinet, containing all the control equipment, is housed on the right of the machine in front of the tool magazine.

The hydraulic power unit, pneumatic system, grease lubrication unit, and SPRAY MIST cooling device are housed on the right-hand upright.

A tool magazine, located in the vicinity of the right-hand upright, enables choice of the new tool to be used by means of a clockwise and counterclockwise chain rotation device.

Commands are sent to the machine from a special console located on a platform which forms an integral part of the left-hand upright.
